On May 11, 2022, I was honored to be appointed to the St. Mary’s County Circuit Court by Governor Larry Hogan. To earn the Governor’s appointment, I had to undergo a rigorous evaluation process designed to assure the most qualified and best suited judge was appointed to serve the citizens of St. Mary’s County.
As an attorney, I regularly handled criminal and civil jury and court trials in the Circuit Courts of St. Mary’s County, Charles County, Calvert County, Prince George’s County, and Anne Arundel County. In addition, I argued cases before the Maryland Appellate Court and the Maryland Supreme Court. While in private practice, I represented clients in the areas of civil litigation, criminal litigation, real estate, property law, family law, estates, contracts, guardianships, adoptions, and appellate law. This vast experience has proven to be a solid foundation for my service as a Judge on the Circuit Court for St. Mary’s County.
I have been very active in the legal community throughout my career, including holding leadership positions in the Maryland State Bar Association and in local bar associations. For more than 10 years prior to my appointment, I orchestrated and managed a free legal clinic providing family law services that assisted over a thousand self-represented individuals. I have volunteered with the St. Mary’s County Bar Association Law Day, St. Mary’s County Project Graduation, the Southern Maryland High School Mock Trial Teams, the Maryland State Bar Association Wills for Heroes,
and Christmas in April for over a decade. Since being appointed to the Circuit Court, I initiated a Guardianship Clinic in St. Mary’s County to assist self-represented individuals with guardianship cases.
After graduating from the University of Maryland at College Park and then the University of Maryland School of Law over 20 years ago, I began my legal career in the Circuit Court for St. Mary’s County as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Marvin S. Kaminetz. Following this clerkship, I had the privilege of working as a prosecutor in the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office before joining a private practice with a leading local law firm in Southern Maryland.
I chose to make St. Mary’s County my family’s home over a decade ago. My husband is a graduate of St. Mary’s College and together we have three children, all of whom were educated in St. Mary’s County Schools. Our children have participated in St. Mary’s County sports and youth groups. I am a past Assistant Coach for the St. Mary’s Youth Soccer Association and a past Secretary of the Evergreen Elementary School PTO. I was also the St. Mary’s County representative on the Marine Museum’s Board of Governors for many years.
I was named to the 2023 Maryland Daily Record’s Top 100 Women, earned the prestigious 2023 Leaders in Law Award, and have been featured in the Maryland State Bar Association’s quarterly publication, The Maryland Bar Journal.
I have received the Maryland Pro Bono Award, the Calvert County Bar Association Law Award, and Congressional Recognition for my legal work.
I have been appointed to the Supreme Court of Maryland’s Standing Committee on Pro Bono Legal Service, the Supreme Court of Maryland’s Character Committee, the Maryland Judicial Education Committee, and the Maryland Judiciary Equal Justice Committee.
