Why should I vote for Judge Amy Lorenzini?

From our community, In their own words...

She served as Assistant State’s Attorney for St. Mary’s County, and she has proven herself as a Judge

Will the election for St. Mary’s County Judge be decided based upon a popularity contest or solely upon qualifications? If a popularity contest, Sue Armitage is a well known and well liked “County Girl” with over 30 years in private practice majoring in Family Law, i.e. Divorce Lawyer. She has not served as a prosecutor or as a Judge. Her criminal law experience does not compare to that of Judge Amy. Judge Amy had to go through an extensive screening process to be appointed by Governor Hogan to fill a vacancy. She has nearly 20 years in private practice with experience in dealing with civil and criminal cases. She served as Assistant State’s Attorney for St. Mary’s County, and she has proven herself as a Judge. It is important that a Judge have experience as both a prosecutor and as a defender, as Amy does. Vote qualifications. Vote to keep Judge Amy. – Joe Wible, Sr, Leonardtown, MD

I have worked in Judge Amy Lorenzini’s chambers for nearly a year as her law clerk and want to let local residents know what a wonderful public servant that the county has in her.

As the election for St. Mary’s County Circuit Court Judge heats up and I see all the election signs everywhere I go on nearby roads, I feel compelled to share some thoughts with the voting community in the county.  I have worked in Judge Amy Lorenzini’s chambers for nearly a year as her law clerk and want to let local residents know what a wonderful public servant that the county has in her. I went to law school in my late fifties after having a full thirty-year career.  During five law school internships, I spent a lot of time observing court cases.  When one visits the courtroom casually, I imagine that there may be a natural tendency to think a judge just shows up late in the morning, sits at the bench comfortably while others work diligently, says a few things to the collected audience on occasion, and then goes home at an early hour.  But that is a grossly mistaken perception.  There is an enormous amount of preparation, scheduling, organization, reading, and research in which a judge must engage behind the scenes simply to keep on top of the caseload.  And, whereas I have worked with and for a lot of people during my career, I am constantly impressed by how Judge Lorenzini undertakes her job.  She does so much reading and research in preparation for her cases.  She makes sure she is giving the public her legal decisions based absolutely on the law, even when a ruling may not be popular.  She uses her decades of practice experience to zero in on the issues before her with a deep background in similar disputes, to ensure fair and just holdings, to educate her staffers, and to regularly balance compassion with a stern need for public safety.  She is conscientious, […]

It’s clear to me that Judge Amy Lorenzini has more experience and is more professional than her opponent.

I knew neither of these candidates before the election however after watching the first forum on YouTube and attending the second one, it’s clear to me that Judge Amy Lorenzini has more experience and is more professional than her opponent. I can only hope everyone votes their honest opinion on the person they feel will do a better job and not the person who is a friend or has the political endorsement of another politician. Do “your” homework and vote accordingly. – Jimmy Hayden, Leonardtown, MD, Lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County

Amy doesn’t tell the community what it needs, she invites us in and listens.

Judge Amy Lorenzini has my vote, and I hope you’ll join me in voting to keep her as our Circuit Court Judge this Primary Election. Her impressive career record, and extensive experience, is reason enough to vote for her. But what I’ve learned, and witnessed, watching Judge Lorenzini campaign has convinced me of her impeccable ability to judge in a fair, and firm, manner. I’ll admit, I wasn’t really sure which candidate to vote for in this race. Both candidates have a wealth of information on their websites, and both women have incredible legal careers. With so many signs along the roadways, it’s obvious the race is competitive. Disproportionate endorsements from the local political establishment favoring one candidate prompted me to do more research. Judge Lorenzini is the only candidate who possesses significant experience across different types of law, including civil and criminal proceedings, jury trials, family law, business litigation, and more. This knowledge was gained throughout her law career, and has been applied during Lorenzini’s time as our Circuit Court Judge. On the campaign trail, Lorenzini said she has sentenced above recommended state guidelines when it is warranted, a fact backed up by public records. Judge Lorenzini delivers on her fair, but firm, promise. I attended two forums to listen to, and more importantly observe, the candidates. Judge Lorenzini arrived early and stayed late, engaging in conversations with everyone. I spotted her at the recent budget public forum standing with educators. Amy has supported and participated with organizations like Warfighter Advance, Three Oaks Center, St. Mary’s County Special Olympics, Shop with a Cop, Hospice Walk, St. Mary’s County 4-H, the Farm Bureau, various county Fire Departments and Rescue Squads, and more. Amy doesn’t tell the community what it needs, she invites us in and listens. As a Judge, she […]

I served on a jury in Judge Amy’s courtroom and she treated us with absolute respect.

I served on a jury in Judge Amy’s courtroom and she treated us with absolute respect. She had patience with difficult attorneys (oxymoron? Lol). She controlled the courtroom with professionalism. She has my vote. Keep Judge Amy Lorenzini on the bench for the good of all St. Mary’s citizens. – Tristan Taylor, California, MD, 25-year resident of St. Mary’s County, Retired Correction Officer

I had jury duty under Judge Lorenzini.

I had jury duty under Judge Lorenzini. She gave us clear and thorough explanations and worked very efficiently to seat a jury. I was very impressed. My vote for Judge Lorenzini has been cast and counted. – Karen Mumbert, St. Mary’s City, MD, Life-long resident of St. Mary’s County, RN and school system retiree

Amy Lorenzini will be fair and unbiased in her decisions and treat those who appear in her courtroom with respect

I have lived in St. Mary’s County all my life and say that with great pride. I appreciate and respect my community and believe most of our residents are honest, hard-working and law-abiding citizens. When faced with a circumstance of needing to hire an attorney, or appear in court, it is a stressful time where you suddenly have to put your trust in those who have devoted their life to understanding and protecting the civil and criminal laws of our great state. Amy Lorenzini represented her clients with integrity for nearly 20 years. Amy went through a thorough vetting process that is conducted by members of the legal profession and her peers. Amy was found to be the best candidate for the position of Circuit Court Judge and was appointed as such by the Governor. I believe when our citizens have to go into a court of law for any reason, Amy Lorenzini will be fair and unbiased in her decisions and treat those who appear in her courtroom with respect. I believe that is what the citizens of St. Mary’s County deserve and why I am voting to keep Judge Amy Lorenzini on the Bench. – Sally Jo Quade, Bushwood Wharf, Maryland, Lifetime resident of St. Mary’s County

Judge Lorenzini not only made an impact on my Girl Scouts but the leaders as well.

“Everyone, including you, SHOULD KNOW about those who are running for appointment in your community. Not every good deed is in the spotlight or stamped with a popular name of approval! Judge Lorenzini not only made an impact on my Girl Scouts but the leaders as well. Judge Lorenzini gave them knowledge of county and state laws and public policy; and empowered them on how to make a significant impact within their community through making their voices heard, and the difference women can make in the judicial system. She answered the hard questions with ease and made them feel comfortable to ask and learn. She showed the girls what teamwork looks like on a higher level; and how every bit of her staff is integral in making the courtroom flow. She gave them a glimpse of how she handles the community with human courtesy and made government and democracy interesting, and dare I say, enlightening for them! Why does all of this matter? Why does making an impact on the youth of our ‘community’ really matter? Simple. They are the next generation who will be taking over the community of St Mary’s County. They will be the ones to vote those next leaders into or out of office and make a better tomorrow for the next generation. They will also be the next to run for office. If they were to follow in her footsteps, we would be so lucky to have them take that place. She gave them COMMUNITY! The girl scout motto is, “to leave a place better than you found it” so… until they come to rule the world…for NOW, Judge Lorenzini has our vote!” – Summer Webb, Great Mills, MD, Moved to St Mary’s 29 years ago by military, Girl Scouts Troop 10024 graduating in 2024

I saw fairness, mindful execution of the law, command of her court room, and absolute poise and dedication to her calling.

“Judge Amy Lorenzini was the judge in a civil case I was the defendant in and some pieces were directed judgments from her and a final piece ended in jury trial. Not all her decisions went how I wanted or would have liked. She corrected me when I was sassy in the trial portion. She was also empathetic when I became overcome with emotion too and was patient when I helped the plaintiff’s lawyer get his “evidence” against me on a hard drive for the jury so we could all eventually go home. It was the first (and hopefully only) time I had been sued. I saw fairness, mindful execution of the law, command of her court room, and absolute poise and dedication to her calling. In what was an absolute horrible experience for me (and again Judge Lorenzini did not always decide on my side) I saw a Judge that I am proud to have representing St. Marys County firsthand. She has my vote!!” – Aunna Cotton, Leonardtown, MD, 10 year St. Mary’s County resident due to military orders

I had the opportunity to serve on a jury where the presiding Judge was Amy Lorenzini

“Judge Lorenzini has a commitment to justice and equality. Upholding the highest standards of judicial conduct, she approached the case with an impartial and objective mindset. Her decision was rooted in a deep understanding of the law, and devoid of personal bias or influence. Judge Lorenzini’s courtroom is where all parties are assured that their voices will be heard and their rights respected. It is this dedication that has earned Judge Amy the respect of her peers and the trust of the community. We need Judge Amy to continue serving our county!” – Tim Wurmlinger, Leonardtown, MD, Came to St. Mary’s in 1979 with McDonnell Douglas F-18, Retired and still here
